Great, I thought, that's precisely what the world needs: more Army Surplus parkas from hyper-inflated prices. The collection will apparently incorporate a nice jumper, classic shoes and trench jackets, and, erm, parkas. Reassuringly, Liam says: "I'm not really into any skinny look. Them pointy footwear, I'm not into them, you know, those shoes that come at you like a fucking snooker cue 鈥?you ought to have a licence for them bastards". If only Liam have been there to advise me so forcefully after i was a kid - I would unquestionably have listened. Growing up, my wardrobe had been unduly influenced by my changing tastes within music. At ten, I was desperate with regard to bright turquoise prints, white socks and dark shoes, thanks to the pernicious influence of New Kids on the market. In fact, they were very fashion-forward, being the forerunners from the blazer-with-a-rolled-up-sleeve look which is now in style. As I got older, my music taste didn't get much better. It wasn't helped by my dad, who introduced me to acid house in the ripe old age of 12. I experienced no idea what the lyrics were regarding - "AC-EEEEEED! " - but I knew I needed to wear something that would show away my anti-establishment clubbing credentials. Unfortunately, for factors I cannot fathom, the closest I got to my vision of drugged-up clubwear had been a brown T-shirt whose armpits glowed orange after i walked faster than four miles an hr. Thanks, Global Hypercolour. Two years later, I'd grown from acid house and enthusiastically launched into the actual Blur v Oasis battle. Sure, I liked Oasis inside a solid rock way, but I preferred the actual art-school insouciance of Blur. So how do my love physically manifest itself? I paid a call to the local Oxfam-raiding 'vintage' shop, and emptied my pockets as a swap for a fusty-smelling tracksuit top à la Damon Albarn within the Parklife video. Its polyester shell didn't even keep me warm in route to school. My next adventures with fashion and music happened during my sixth form years, a stressed time when my hormones were raging as well as I was under intense academic pressure 鈥?Nicely, that's my excuse anyway. In short, I was a rebel with no cause. I got into hip hop as well as oh-so-controversial nu-metal (we're hardly talking Black Sabbath here). Towards the strains of Limp Bizkit, NOFX and the Beastie Boys I stop most of my hair, peroxided what small was left, and dyed it pink. Saggy fights, midriff-revealing vests and piercings became my clothing choice du jour. I was aiming with regard to Gwen Stefani; instead, I was threatened using the sack from my Saturday job at Topshop. These days, I like to think my wardrobe isn't depending on bands at all. I managed to steer well free from the 'fluoro' Klaxons look, and I've not really yet been tempted to wear a Regal Doulton-style nappy à la Lady Gaga in the Brit Awards. I don't think I'm alone to have based my personal style on popstars previously. It would be great to hear what fashion mistakes you produced in the pursuit of a band.
